Antonia Alvarez

PhD, she/her

Antonia has more than a decade of experience working in communities with youth and adult service providers in the areas of suicide prevention; creating empowering spaces for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth; dating and domestic violence; and indigenous health and healing. Her behavioral health research/services interest is in community-based mental health programs, and specifically in youth suicide prevention and interventions that use arts and culturally responsive techniques/methodologies. Antonia recently completed the social work doctoral program at the University of Denver, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College in Ohio and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Antonia currently lives in Portland, Oregon, and is a member of the faculty at Portland State University where she combines teaching and research on community-based interventions with culturally responsive social work practice in the areas of indigenous health and mental health.
