Danny Alvarez

Interim Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, they/them

Danny is a passionate facilitator, educator, and organizer with over 10 years of experience working with groups from a lens of social identity and power. With practices strongly rooted in popular education and intergroup dialogue pedagogy, they have taught, developed, and managed programs at both the University of Michigan and Stanford University over the last five years. Operating from the belief that social transformation is both necessary and possible, Danny is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations develop equitable systems, build power, and move toward collective liberation. As a consultant and trainer, Danny works with organizations on themes, including creating trans inclusive workplaces, facilitating strategic planning and change management, identifying and dismantling systems of white supremacy, and navigating conflict by recognizing and working with power dynamics. 

Danny holds a Bachelor of Arts in African American studies from Earlham College and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. 

Danny currently lives in Michigan with their partner, two kids, two cats and five chickens.
